Solodization, soil - The sum of pedogenic processes by which sesquioxides (Al3+ and Fe3+) are leached from the A-horizon during the alkaline hydrolysis and precipitated in the B-horizon, often resulting in a leached layer, the A2(E)-horizon. These processes result in soils that are called solod. The pedogenesis of solods is determined by the leaching of soluble salts from the profile of solonetzic soils or desalinisation. The process of sesquioxide eluviation is thought to be activated during the leaching of the exchangeable sodium from the soil adsorption complex. Therefore, the profile of these soils has morphological features similar to those of podzolic soils or podzols. These soils differ in biological, physical, physico-chemical and chemical properties and, first of all, in the solod alkalinity.
